"It was by far the best part
of my BSc time. I have
never before learned so
much in such a short time,
and I would have never
believed that living in one
big house with 15
international students
would be that much fun.
We all have grown to be
a family, there will be
reunions and future
cooperations.  I wish
everybody could get a
chance to experience
what I did."

working in a field

interdisciplinary,
multinational team.
The course  has
made me realise
the importance of
having experts in

knowledge into
something useful for
society

EU marine con.

applied coastal conservation
for outdoor educators

We developed this course for key people within the watersport community.  Instructors, teachers and station managers play an important role; they are opinion leaders and in the perfect position to lead by example, spread the word of sustainability, and educate adult learners about sea-friendly behaviours during their lessons.

As part of the course you will discover the coastal environment and the threats it is facing from human intervention. You will learn many different, cost-effective ways to 'green' your own workplace and demonstrate environmental consciousness to peers and customers.

course format
: theoretical framework, practical activities, site visits

Lectures, site visits and workshops provide a theoretical framework and underpin practical activities on the beach.  Our staff are keen surfers themselves, have broad research experience and hold doctorate degrees in science.

Interactivity is key. You will always be invited to participate by answering questions, reporting your own experiences and sharing your opinion with others.

The training is tightly structured and academically rigorous. It is not a surf course. However, there is plenty of time before and after the lessons to go surfing. We are happy to include the obligatory surf-safaris at dawn and dusk to check our local spots and alter the timetable when the famous Arrifana Point or Zavial is breaking 6ft with light offshore winds.
